1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
moved in with someone that i am dating. yeah!

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
i don't think i made a resolution per se, but i did try getting into the habit of going to the gym. lasted for a couple months, but got lost once work on cyberarts and apartment hunting consumed my life.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
nope

4. Did anyone close to you die?
peapod the iguana.

5. What countries did you visit?
england in january for work. 2004 i shall do much better.

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
motivation at work. more free time. the original definition of the chiclet project completed in some form.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
a few. 1) move in day, for the excitement and curiosity of how this would work out, along with sheer number of people that helped bridget and me move. 2) watching the red sox lose game 7 at the common ground. felt the best and worst of communal emotions. 3) the great glowstick battle of '03.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
probably the work that was done with chiclet (primarily showing at cyberarts and receiving some good feedback and taking 3rd place at vidalife)

9. What was your biggest failure?
errr, not really a failure, but i think at times i've been spacey bordering on inconsiderate dealing with other people.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
a kitten! though that answer feels weird to me. i like to think of him as being sent from heaven. maybe the couch is more appropriate.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
bridget for surviving and thriving and being there for me.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
the world at large. it seems to be heading in the wrong direction.

14. Where did most of your money go?
rent and furnishing the new place.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
moving in with bridget!

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
this was a really crummy year for music. can't think of anything new that really resonated with me. maybe the songs brian and ben wrote for chiclet.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
I. happier or sadder? can't remember where i was last year, but i bet i'm around the same place.
ii. thinner or fatter? see above.
iii. richer or poorer? eh, richer in the grand scheme of things, though i feel poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
gone dancing, written music, been spontaneous

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
played diablo, researched and looked at crummy apartments

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
split between my home and bridget's home.

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
still falling.

23. How many one-night stands?
naught

24. What was your favorite TV program?
hmmm, getting into jon stewart and south park, but in general have avoided tv.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
nope, i ain't a hater.

26. What was the best book you read?
ugh, did i read *any* books this year? i guess i made it through nickel and dimed, but that's a pretty pathetic answer.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
that sometimes i write music people other than me like.

28. What did you want and get?
a prize at vidalife. a rad apartment that makes me very happy.

29. What did you want and not get?
two other rad apartments. ;)

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
eh like with music, nothing really stuck with me. i'm sure that RotK will win this one, it's just a question of whether i'll see it in time... actually 28 days later was really powerful and they used gybe! in the score, so that's good enough for me.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
went to work, spent the evening with bridget and received lots of cute little gifts. 28. yuck.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
some finality on the chiclet project. not that i want it to end, just that i wish there was more tangible output from the syndicate.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
heathered. solid. muted. dull, but comfortable.

34. What kept you sane?
the light at the end of the tunnel.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
bjork

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
everything to do with iraq/war/terrorism/etc, gay marriage, dem primary battles

37. Who did you miss?
a couple people. mostly eugene and yosh. and i miss not having mike around, though my new roommate is pretty cool too. ;p

38. Who was the best new person you met?
hmmm, who did i only meet in 2003? there was a mass introduction of new people at the end of 2002, which i'm grateful happened. this year was more about turning a couple of those acquaintences into friendships.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003.
work hard and you can do good things. don't work hard but surround yourself with smart people and you can also do good things.

oh and don't drink too much absinthe. it makes you ill and then you do dumb things.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
song lyrics are stupid.

Hi there! Brigid said it might be a good plan to give you this soup recipe... since her throat is so sore, I imagine soups are good right now. So forgive the random intrusion, and I hope you like the recipe!

Garlic Soup

one head of garlic per quart of soup
one onion per quart of soup
butter
salt and pepper to taste
white wine if you like

Peel all the garlic and cut the ends off the cloves. You can leave them whole. Peel the onion and chop it coarsely. If you have a heavy bottom no stick pot, that's great, if not you can do the next step in a frying pan, then dump all the onion and garlic into a pot after and deglaze the pan. Caramellize the onion and garlic over low heat in the melted butter. This will take a while, but do keep an eye on it so that it doesn't burn. It usually takes me 45 minutes to an hour for this stage.

Add the correct amount of water for the amount of garlic/onion, and salt and pepper to taste, plus the wine if you are using it. Cook it for anywhere from one to three hours. One is really fine, I find. At this point you can serve it as is, or toss it in a blender before, etc. You have options! It's a delicious, rich soup.

Should be kind to her poor ravaged throat, and the garlic is good for her, especially if her immune system is getting overloaded with all the stress her body is under.
