nyquil dreams and 3 hour commutes
Dec. 2nd, 2003 11:35 am~ i remembered a dream of mine from last night. i was in a walmart/target type store when i found a wall filled with generative music toys. specifically i found a techno machine certified by richie hawtin. it had a few knobs for controlling how sounds were triggered and sliders which seemed to modify a filter of some sort. there was also a small 1 octave piano keyboard. it had a builtin speaker and was made of red and yellow plastic. the whole thing was about 1/4 the size of a PC keyboard and sold for $699. curious, i took it out of its packaging and ran to a back room (dressing room?) and started playing with the thing. it sounded pretty cool and i was impressed with its sequencing capabilities. but really, who was going to pay $699 for this? soon after i found one of my friends from the syndicate and showed him the piece. he liked it and managed to eek out some cool sounds which seemed to attract the attention of a security guard (who happened to be randy moss), who ran into the dressing room telling ben and i to put the music machine back where it came from. i remember thinking "what a great idea to hire an NFL wide receiver to be a security guard, there's no way i can outrun him!". after giving both of us an evil look i took the music toy back to where i found it, put it back in its plastic packaging, and left the store.
~ normally my commute takes ~30 mintues, but today it took 3 hours. in this time i:
a) was passed by a woman on her morning walk.
b) ate breakfast at aesop's bagels, which was really quite delicious. while there, i looked in a mirror and realized that i didn't wash out most of the shampoo out of my hair. ugh.
c) came up with a new algorithm i want to implement on chiclet.
d) listened to some good music.
e) three times tried to pull onto a major highway (twice rt 2, once rt 95) and quickly thought better of it. the 3rd time i did a uturn from the on-ramp to the off-ramp (over the curb, across the grass divide), and so did many cars in front of and behind me.
f) came within one traffic jam of just driving home and going back to bed.
so yes, i decided to be a trooper and made it to work at 11am, hoping to gain some brownie points from my boss. turns out he's in england this week. oops! at least i know it will be easy to leave early...
now i am drinking soda pop and eating sweet tarts. i wonder what the afternoon shall bring?
