so lately b's been suffering with some pretty serious insomnia, and with insomnia comes boredom. so at 7.15am (45 min before the alarm goes off) b wakes me up to try and pull out some company/conversation from me. i make some weak attempts at talking and then roll back over on my side, wondering if it's going to be possible to nap before the inevitable. b decides to pick up her psychology book and read while lying beside me. not wanting to be upstaged by some dumb book, i start asking questions about what she's reading (it's all about why people help each other). soon she turns the page, and what do i see, but a picture of two monkeys! all i can say/slur/mutter/excaim at this point is...

"monkeymonkey!"

see, i like monkeys.

now that bridget is giggling i start saying monkeymonkey over and over, suggesting that 'monkey' should replace 's' as the common pluralizer for words, and that i would teach my child to add monkey to the end of every word because it would be cute and an interesting social experiment to see how they'd deal with their teachers' confusion and pity.

so yeah, i can be an attention whore and say retarded things, you just have to know when to catch me.

monkey!

you never said you were going to use that as a social experiment. ever.

i think every 5th word from b and i today has been monkey. par for the course for me, a little above average for brigid. :)

Pinker would argue that it doesn't matter how much you say monkey to your child. As long as his friends aren't doing it, he won't.
