Spoke to the Urologist a few minutes ago.  The procedure went well; no complications so far.  She's in the recovery area where I can't see her for a little while still.  Once I know more I'm sure her or myself will update the LJ.

Hey man - unrelated; Sorry to hear about your father. My father went through lyme disease awhile back and it was pretty rough... and more recently had a heart attack ending up in a quadruple bypass.

Let me tell you that it was surprisingly the best thing ever for him to have the heart attack. He completely changed his lifestyle, started regular exercise, eating better, etc. He recognized what he has been doing to his health.

So... hang in there. You're lucky that it was caught now. Doctors are getting very very good at dealing with heart troubles, there's a lot of great medicinal options to extend and improve lives.

Thanks for the comment. We don't know if it's Lyme Disease or not; he had the telltale bullseye rash but tests have come back negative and his symptoms don't quite match so it's hard to say what's going on. I imagine he'll come back into the city in a couple months for the original appointment to try and finally answer this question.

My brother (who's a primary care doctor) also said that this could be a very good thing for my dad, especially in terms of getting some energy back. I didn't realize that bypass surgery leaves people doing better rather than just keeping them from getting worse. Typically it seems when older people have major surgery it's part of a long decline. We're expecting the first month or two to be rough but then he'll come back strong. I'm really looking forward to meeting my new energized dad! :)

Oh, yeah, my dad had a lot more energy after his bypass... blood circulates a lot easier after that, which helps a lot.

Lymes is not easy to catch. My father had it for a few years before we figured out what it really was... doctors were telling us it was MS and he had six months to live! That was rough... but ten years ago. ;) He lived long enough to have a quad bypass :)
